Reviews/Feedback:
worked to cure my bactrial infection with no side effects
This med was prescribed for me after I developed a vancomycin rash after being on IV Vanco for several weeks. I was being treated for a staph aureus infection contracted after back surgery. The infection went into my three joint replacements. Zyvox caused sleeplessness and extreme tiredness and some diarrhea. The sleeplessness was the most difficult side effect, the tiredness being a result of that as well as a side effect of the drug. Headaches were also a problem.
Taking drug due to infection after major oral surgery. Thank goodness for insurance drug is $1,800 for a 10 day supply. Still having issues but at least the "cure" wasn't worse than the disease.
My mother had a large blood clot in her leg that was infected and had caused a blood infection of the staph variety. Mom was put on Zyvox and by the time the weekend was over, mom's leg no longer had what I call a ball under where it was drained.

Her skin improved overall, her legs lost that reddish look and the veins in her legs that had been enlarged went back to normal. So, I know this antibiotic has a good effect on the skin.

Her energy improved as well, I know this is just an antibiotic, but I never experienced one like this. It does cost a lot if you don't insurance to help.

Mom has alzheimer's so I can't say much about side effects. If she had any, she was unable to express it, but I didn't notice anything myself of real significance.
My husband has been on Zyvox 600mg for almost 2 weeks. He had MRSA in and around his lungs from aan acute pancreatitis attack. He was in the hospital for 3 weeks and on many IV antibodics. His white count is almost normal, so it must be working. He says all of his food is tasteless, he has stomach upset & heartburn. I will update this in a few weeks but we think it is working!
I was in intensive care with mrsa. I wasn't expected to survive. An infectious disease doctor tried zyvox iv. I began to recover. After a stay of five weeks, I left the hospital. Three weeks later I returned to teaching full time. Zyvox saved my life! This was in June, 2006.
I found Zyvox to be a very good antibiotic, with few side effects. After the first two doses, I had awful burning in my stomach, but that didn't last long. I couldn't take my meds for osteoarthritis, while on Zyvox, because it seemed to irritate my stomach. Zyvox allowed me to return home to my family after a 7 day stay in the hospital, where I was on Rocephin and Vencomycin, to treat MRSA. Zyvox is very expensive when you have to pay out of pocket, but it is not nearly as expensive as staying in the hospital 10 more days.
I experienced some headaches and very soft stool.
I am on my second round of zyvox. The first time, the cough went away, but came back after I finished taking it. Time will tell if it works this time. When first taking it, little side effects. Towards the end, queasy stomach, little appetite, bad taste in mouth and on my lips. This went away in about a week after I finished the first round. If it works, it will be worth it.
Allergic to most A/B's? This med was ordered for me by a consulting Infectious Disease MD while I was in the hospital trying to fight cellulitis despite my myriad of allergies to most classes of A/B's. Though I had to stop taking my allergy medication due to it's decongestant, as well as abrubtly discontinue two antidepressants (SSRI's), and then fret over every single thing I ate and drank (thus the low rating on ease of use DUE TO THE MANY POSSIBLE INTERACTIONS); this expensive antibiotic allowed me to go home to my family and infant son; AND keep the expanders in necessary for breast reconstruction due to bilateral mastectomy for breast cancer without losing any of my available (infected) tissue. Without Zyvox I would have had to remain in the hospital indefinately on IV A/B's and copious amounts of Benedryl to counteract my rashes, hives, and itching caused by the other A/B's. Zyvox caused no such reaction. Results of its effecitveness were noticable in HOURS, which is amazing for an oral tablet. If the possible interactions seem too much to deal with, the consequences of NOT following this med's course of treatment make it well worth the worry and penny.
