Reviews/Feedback:
zyprexia good for psychotic symptoms but lots of weight gain
Zyprexa: Weight gain I used Zyprexa for 2 years as an antipsychotic. It was a welcome change from Zoloft, as some libido returned. However, I did gain 25lbs while on Zyprexa. There was no motivation to exercise regularly, or at all. I was drowsy in the afternoon and dozed off more days than not. Eventually I changed to Seroquel and lost the weight and the afternoon naps stopped.
Zyprexa: effective but bad side effects I have been taking Zyprexa on and off at different doses for almost ten years (can't remember exactly when). The weight gain is an issue, though I have managed to lose 30 kg and am still on a 10mg dose. (though part of this weight loss was prob due to changing from Epilim onto Tegretol). I have to do heaps of exerise to keep it off though and really watch my diet. The other thing I find difficult (and it is difficult to tell exactly what is causing this) but I often feel very tired and slowed down.. I walk slowly and I can't keep my eyes open, and I just want to lie down in bed. I have to have a job that starts at 10.15am instead of 9am as I just can't get up in the morning on a regular basis. Despite the side effects I am scared to reduce my dose because I believe it is part of what has been keeping me moderately well. I have had bipolar for 20yrs and had terrible scary manic episodes. Since zyprexa I've hardly had any. When I have the zyprexa seems to control them well, and if I start to have symptoms like not sleeping an increase of dose of zyprexa "nips the episode in the bud", and I can do this at home without having to go into hospital. Recently, (actually just today) I tried a cup of coffee (don't usually ever drink it) and it seemed to take away the slowed down sedated tired feeling.
Zyprexa: My never ending hunger I took Zyprexa for a few months a few years ago. It was the first of several atypical antipsychotics that I have tried. At first I felt kind of spacey, but then seemed to adjust to it. The biggest problem for me was that I was always hungry - always. No matter how much I ate withing minutes I was hungry again. And I'm not talking about cravings, it was pure hunger for anything. I was gaining weight of course, but more than that I didn't have the time or the money to constantly be feeding myself. Psychologically, I felt pretty good and consistent with my moods.
Zyprexa...sort of... in a short time, seems to have reduced the degree of lows, but highs still an issue...
Zyprexa........ Aborts as quick as Triptans without the "icky" side effects.
You can also take it regardless if you have used a triptan and do not have to worry about the risk of mixing.
It's also tremendously cheaper than many of the drugs we take.
Dosage on the rating scale is not really applicable. can use PRN
Zyprexa-the fat drug I gained about 60 - 70 lbs on zyprexa. In addition, I was so tired all the time. Sometimes I would sleep 12-13hrs and still feel tired! The only time I felt good was right before I went to sleep at night! (I was actually on 15mg not 10mg). I was recently put on Abilify. This is a wonder drug. I've lost 15 lbs in one week and I'm not tired anymore! I've got my life back.
Zyprexa's Good I've been on Zyprexa as a replacement for Risperdal because of insomnia. For that, Zyprexa has worked excellently -- I sleep deeply now, and always for at least 8-10 hours. Zyprexa has also helped with the other problems: delusions, paranoia, aggression, irritability... and it has helped clear up my thinking.
These benefits came with only one drawback. Weight gain is probably already the most well-known, and for me it's no different. I've packed on 15 pounds in 3 months. I was also taking Topamax to prevent the weight gain, but all it did was slow it down.
I believe Zyprexa is a fine medication for controlling mania, but beware of the weight gain. For some, it's enough of an issue to choose another med.
I like Zyprexa.
Zyprexa Zyprexa was prescibed as an atypical anti-psychotic for my 11 year old son after unsuccessful treatment with Seroquel, Abilify and Risperdal. Zyprexa kicks butt at keeping the hallucinations at bay, but has contributed to a significant weight gain. If he is late in taking the dosage at all, the hallucinations (auditory, tactile and visual) begin almost immediately, so for us consistency in dosage is paramount. Risperdal is given as needed to help with impulse control and rage issues. For hallucinations, Zyprexa has been the most effective, but we still need a mood stabilizer and a second atypical.
Zyprexa Zyprexa seemed to do its job well, when I was extremely s**ci*al. After about a year, it wasn't working as well and I went off it. In the first two weeks of going off of it, I lost 20 #'s.
Zyprexa works! I actually take 1 tablet in the morning and 2 tablets at night(30 mg total per day). I think it works well for anxiety; however, it doesn't control my bipolar disorder that well. I also take Depakote(1000 mg) to help that. I think I am actually starting to feel normal after trying Geodon(120 mg) and Abilify(20 mg) to top it off with Ativan(8mg)---(didn't work at all). I am glad to be put on something that actually relieves my anxiety, voices, hallucinations, and somewhat helps my mood swings. It really is a great drug!
Zyprexa works well I had the weight gain at first but that slowly stopped. Right now i am on it and it is working wonders for my mania. I feel very stable, calm, and collected on zyprexa. The only thing is that i feel like I am 100% passionless sometimes. I feel like i have lost interest in things i was once excited about.
