Reviews/Feedback:
Works well Imipramine has worked well for me, with minimal side effects, except when I go into a period of high stress, where it usually is ineffective. I am here looking for another remedy so...
Very effective After my hysterectomy, my Ob/Gyn identified IBS/C as the reason for my abdominal pain (since we had removed the Endometriosis). He put me on Inipramine 25 mg after I gain 10# in 6 weeks on Amitrypline. It worked ok for 20 months with only 1-2 days a month incapcitation. Then we doubled it to 50 mg which reduced the symptoms again for 5 months.

A year later and several procedures, including another laparoscopy for Endo, I'm at 50 mg Inipramine plus 20 mg Lexapro, and on an anti-yeast, anti-food allergy diet which seems to be working better. I'm regular on a daily basis and only have a bad 2-3 hours once a week after a tough bowel movement.
Try Tofranil Not many IC doctors prescribe tofranil, they usually go to elavil first and stop if that doesn't work. I found the tofranil worked much better than the elavil . . . and it starts to work quickly. I felt a difference at just 25 mgs in one week. I felt an even greater difference at 50 mgs after one week.

It does make me drowsy, and if I take more than 50 mgs it actually increases my depression, rather than decreasing it. But I think that is a rare side effect.

Tofranil is definitely worth a try!
Took medicine to help with sleep, first time I got a full 8 hours in a long time. Did leave me a little hungover the next morning. We will see how it works in the long term.
Tofranil-PM This was prescribed to me for fibromyalgia, and it is working great for that. I noticed that after several weeks that I felt better emotionally, also. My doctor says that it is fixing the depression that I have that goes along with having fibromyalgia. I did not realize I was depressed until then. My fibro is so much better, and I am definitely happier that I feel better.
Tofranil-PM My physician tried this newer type of Tofranil on me due to my insomnia and increase in pain at night. I LOVE IT! I can fall asleep, my pain during the day and in the evening is so much better. I have a dry mouth in the morning, but it does not bother me all day long, so I can tolerate it. I have not felt this good in over a year.
Tofranil-PM I also have fibromyalgia along with my IBS. My doctor tried me on this newer type of Tofranil. Not only am I sleeping better and my pain is better, but the IBS seems a lot better, too. My doctor said that he is glad that something is working! The side effects that I am noticing is a dry mouth in the morning, but not too bad the rest of the day.
Tofranil We saw minor improvements in his mood swings and depression.
Tofranil Overall, this has been great in controlling my panic attacks, but it makes me very tired and makes me eat a lot more. I now dream of ice cream and donuts, which I don't like. It would be great if it did not make feel like a pig.
Tofranil In 1986 I began a chronic bout(daily pain all day long) with IBS with cramps and diarrhea. I was seeing an Internist and a GI doctor. Nothing they gave me helped. After nine months I was referred to a psychiatrist and he put me on Tofranil. Within two weeks my pain and other symptoms were gone. But Tofranil caused such severe constipation and dry mouth, I finally quit taking it, and my IBS stayed in remission for a year or two.
This medication saved my life. Before I was very depressed and slept terribly throughout my entire life. I've been taking it for eight years now and have had no abnormal depression and I sleep through the night. My mother also has taken this medication for anxiety and it worked well for her as well.
This is the only drug I trust to treat this condition.
