Reviews/Feedback:
worked well for awhile It seemed to be helping in the beginning but after awhile it didn't seem to be. No side effects.
WHEW!!....Finally, some relief! I have GAD and Social Phobia. I suffered for 40 years with a hyper adrenalin-like reaction to new situations and new people. My heart, pulse, blood pressure, and breathing would speed up. I could feel diarrhea trying to startup, and my quiet abdominal ulcer begins to act up. I was obviously perspiring, nervous and shaky and while trying so danged hard not to let it show. Also my eye sight got blurry to the point that I could not read anything, or fill out an application or something like that, right away. I would get sores in my mouth the following day. All these symptoms were so, so very stressful and embarrassing to me that I pretty much just stayed home by my self. I so dreaded the physical symptoms. Even though I'm on Effexor XR 75 mg, (new as of 2 weeks ago), after going off Celexa, and I have Ativan 2 tabs as needed, nothing could prevent these symptoms. Then my blood pressure shot up from the Effexor, (I was already Hypertensive and on medication for it), but it shot up even higher, and my doctor put me on a Beta-1 Blocker.

Taking the Beta Blocker, Tenormin -(atenolol) along with my other med's has made a new person of me. I no longer have to go through all that stuff just to go somewhere, or meet someone. My eyes no longer have the feeling of pressure in them and I can see clearly, and my headaches have disappeared, and im not unresonably nervous anymore. It is the best thing that has happened to me regarding GAD and SP, and my Blood Pressure is normal again.

I find it cools my body some, and thats a great help because the Effexor makes me feel as though my body is extremely over heated, (still adjusting to it), it also makes my feet and nose cold, and I'm a little bit tired on it, but I'm CALM! Do you here me out there people?...I'M CALM IN A SOCIAL SITUATION!! :). So yes there are some minor side effects, that should wear off, but I would rather have these side effects any day that be the way I was. I highly recommend

Was on 50mg for many years. B/P good & HB slow 50-60. 3 yrs ago reduced to 25mg. Still about the same. Recently told to cut pill in half & take every 12 hrs. Still about the same. Experience some shortness of breath and fatigue. I can live with that as I am still able to be quite active. Also caused ED. Thank God for viagra. LOL
Using this medication has brought my bloodpressure down considerably. It works for me.
used this drug for almost 5 years, made me tired with very low bp and heart rate until i discovered eating at least one banana during or after breakfast before i take 1/2 atenolol really helps.probably because banana contains potassium which is one of the useful nutrients to fight fatigue. i take the other 1/2 of the 25mg after dinner.tenormin works great for my anxiety too. one mile walk will help with weight gain.
Together with this medication and exercise, blood pressure has remained within apprapriate age range.
Thumbs up This drug is helping reduce my rapid heart rate, which made me feel sick all the time. I'm so glad I've found something that works.
This medication is easy to use and it has lowered my blood pressure. The only complaint I have is that I have gained 10 lbs. while on this medication.
Tension/Migraine Headaches I used this medicine faithfully for 3 months and only had one headache and was thrilled. I had no side effects except my bloodpressure was a little low so he said I could go off. So my doctor winged me off. Well long behold about a month later I stopped, they came back. So here I am back on it as of a 1 week ago. I have had a couple headaches but bearable. I don't like the fact that it plays with your blood pressure.
I would like to be placed on something else but he seems to feel like Tenormin/Atenenol is the "answer".
We'll see in due time.
only on 50 mg 90 days preusre not under control went up to 100 mg 30 days still not under control but lower. on 4 other meds did not work well.
my sex life became poor with this tenormin

Warnings/Precautions

Tenormin can aggravate breathing difficulties in patients with asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema. In patients with existing slow heart rates (bradycardias) and heart blocks (defects in the electrical conduction of the heart), tenormin can cause dangerously slow heart rates, and even shock. Tenormin reduces the force of heart muscle contraction and can aggravate symptoms of heart failure. Calcium channel blockers, and digoxin (Lanoxin) can cause lowering of blood pressure and heart rate to dangerous levels when administered together with tenormin. In patients with coronary artery disease, abruptly stopping tenormin can suddenly worsen angina, and occasionally precipitate heart attacks. If it is necessary to discontinue tenormin, its dosage can be reduced gradually over several weeks. Tenormin can mask the early warning symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), and should be used with caution in patients receiving treatment for diabetes. It is not habit forming.
