Wow I have been taking Sinequan for a month and the sleep I get is INCREDIBLE. I feel much better. I'm amazed at how good I feel. Not anxious or depressed anymore. It's a miracle drug for me.
Works but has side-effects Pretty effective as a sleep aid. I could only tolerate up to 5 mg. of the diluted liquid doxepin before bed though. More than that and I would have horrible dreams and be very sedated the next day. I had to stop it eventually as it was too hard on my stomach, even if I took it with some food.
Worked to help regulate sleep patterns After developing insomnia in addition to extreme fatigue (I now realize was heat induced), I took Sinequan for about 3 months (Aug-Oct). It helped get my sleep patterns regulated which allowed me to cope better with the fatigue (which decreased as winter set in). I would recommend this anti-depressant to anyone who is experiencing insomnia that is exacerbating fatigue symptoms.
weight gain with doxepin Doxepin was great for mood and insomnia. I gained 15 lbs. in 4 months even with 1 hour at the gym a day and 1200 calories. I'm off this for EVER!
Very sedating I could only tolerate up to 5 mg. of the diluted liquid doxepin before bed. More than that I would have horrible dreams and be very sedated the next day. Helpful mostly as a sleep aid - there are better meds. for depression I think. I had to stop it eventually as it was too hard on my stomach, even if I took it with some food.
Very effective but hard on stomach Liquid doxepin is actually one of the most effective antihistamines I have tried. Unfortunately it is a very bitter solution, and even diluted with water and taken with food, my stomach eventually said "enough already" and I had to stop. Gave me a year of benefit though. A very powerful sleep aid too - it would be impossible to take anytime but before bedtime.
Used Sinequan long ago I used this antidepressant back in the 80s. What I remember is being very depressed, suicidal in fact. I took this drug for two years and can honestly say I've not been seriously depressed since that time. I believe this drug jump-started my own neurotransmitter system and helped me feel relatively normal again. If SSRIs haven't worked for you, I'd at least give this a try. Side effects included dry mouth and slight urinary difficulties. I'm pretty intolerant of drug side-effects and don't remember these being too terrible.
Tricyclics for headaches I take doxepin 25 mg. at bedtime. Five years ago I woke up with the worst headache I'd ever had in my life. It was a global, pounding, excruciating headache that wouldn't go away. After CT scan MRI, MMRI it was determined I didn't have a bleed, stroke, etc., and was tried on a variety of meds. Nothing worked. Finally I was sent to a neurologist who put me on the tricyclic doxepin. It controlled my headache within days, and within three months I was headache free except for occasional flares. My headache was never given a category, like migraine, tension, cluster, etc. I was 64 years old at the time and had never before had headaches. I'd like to hear from anyone else who has had a similar experience.
The all-in-one drug! Sinequan is the all-in-one drug. It was given to me for my depression and to help me to sleep. Most people don't know, but it's also an anti-histamine and also helps with my allergies! I have been taking Sinequan for several years. It's a tricyclic antidepressant, a category of drugs rarely prescribed anymore due to their high lethality upon overdose, however, it has worked for me. It, in combination with others, has been the best combination thus far and although several psychiatrists who think they know best have tried to take me off of it, I have not backed down because it has been the best combination for me. Find the best combination for you and stick with it.
Still taking Doxepin I've been taking this medication for quite a while now, and the trick for me has been the same for every medication I've ever taken. Find the right dose for my chemical makeup. I went from 10mg to 25 to 50 to 60 to 75, and back down to 50mg. Even though 75mg is the lowest recommended theraputic dose, it was still too high for me and produced more anxiety. I made changes by 10mgs at a time until I was most comfortable. I take it at night so I get the benefit of it being a somnolent. Every side effect it had has long since dissapated. I do take another medication though to get the full benefits of both (Zoloft), so all the anxiety, depression, and OCD type thoughts have subsided. I've had a particularly resistant disorder, which draws on what seems are many different disorders. Bipolar people often experience this, much the same way that people with schizophrenia embody a constellation of disorders. So while I don't have full blown OCD, I do experience some symptoms, and the anxiety and depression feed off of each other. Because I take lithium I don't have manic episodes anymore, but these all use to collide with each other. I use to resist "piggybacking" medications because I didn't want all that in my system, but I have managed to get on the lowest doses possible to maintain balance, and it's working. I don't ever feel drugged, I don't feel like my persoanlity or my true self has changed, I just feel much more able to function. And that's a blessing.
Sinequan This is without a doubt the most effective drug I have taken
Sinequan saved my life in 1988 by lifting the severe anxiety and depression that I was experiencing. I slept soo good on this med. In fact, I am going back on it for anxiety again. The only downside to this med is weight gain which was severe. BUT, if your doc will not prescribe benzodiazepines (and most won't) then at least try Sinequan. It's worth it. You are worth it too.
