Yuck Tried this after Lexapro made me much too tired. Doc said Paxil was more activating. It did give me a decently normal amount of energy. It seemed to help a bit with depression and anxiety. And it didn't send me into hypomania. Except, near the end of treatment(approximately 6 weeks), it did seem to aggravate the bipolar a little and bring on some irritability.

The complaint I have is that this made me emotionally flatter than any other of the SSRI's I've tried (I have taken Prozac, Luvox, Lexapro, and Zoloft throughout the years). I hate that effect of the SSRI's...and this drug was the worst in that effect. It also just about destroyed my sex life. It severely decreased my libido. And even when trying to have sex, it became almost impossible to climax. Once again...this effect was worse with Paxil than any other of the SSRI's.

I didn't have any of the infamous withdraw symptoms when stopping the Paxil. But I self medicated with 5 mgs of Lexapro that I had left over from before. I took this for about 10 days after stopping Paxil, and had no problems with withdraw symptoms.

Here's a tip: If you are having sexual side effects, you may want to try the amino acid DL-Phenylalanine. It has an effect very similar to Wellbutrin, which is often used to counter sexual side effects. The DL-Phenylalanine(DLPA) seemed to help a bit with this...but even that over time was not enough to counter the Paxil's side effects. (Be aware though, DLPA has strong anti-depressant properties, and should be used with caution in conjuction with other antidepressants.)

Your mileage may vary.. Very curious... I took this medication twice, first time it worked well and had relatively few side effects. Second time I had severe nausea, emotionlessness, and sexual side effects. If it works for you, great! If not, make sure you DEMAND that your doctor prescribe something different... Life is too short, and there are too many alternatives to stick with a med that's not working for you.

YOU HAVE TO GET USED TO IT PAXIL AT FIRST I THOUGHT WAS GOING TO MESS ME UP FOREVER. I SLEPT ALL THE TIME. I WOKE UP, WENT TO SCHOOL (COLLEGE) THEN CAME HOME AND GOT READY FOR BED. I SLEPT ALMOST 18 HOURS OUT OF THE DAY, NO JOKE. AND IT WASNT LIKE I COULD STOP IT, I WAS SOOOOO TIRED. COMPLETELY EXHAUSTED. BUT THEN, AFTER ABOUT FOUR MONTHS, MY SLEEPYNESS DISAPEARED. ITS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR AND NOW IM GETTING READY TO COME OFF OF IT. ITS REALLY HELPED ME ALOT, I FEEL SO MUCH STRONGER THAN BEFORE. AND NOW THAT I KNOW I HAVE PANIC DISORDER, AND HOW TO TREAT IT, IM NOT AFRAID OF IT ANYLONGER. I WILL ADVISE NOT TO DRINK HEAVLIY ON IT THOUGH. A COUPLE MONTHS INTO THE TREATMENT I WENT OUT DRINKING FOR ALMOST 4 DAYS STRAIGHT. IM A PASSIVE PERSON, VERY PASSIVE, BUT FOR SOME REASON I LOST MY EDGE AND BEGAN STARTING FIGHTS WITH ANYONE, EVEN IF THEY WERE ALOT BIGGER THAN ME. I WOULD FLIP OUT IF SOMEONE CUT ME IN LINE OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. MY FRIENDS DIDNT KNOW WHAT TO THINK. THEN AFTER I QUIT I WENT INTO A HUGE DEPRESSION FOR ALMOST TWO WEEKS WHERE ALL I DID WAS CRY, I FELT SO HOPELESS. WELL THATS JUST WHAT HAPPENS WHEN U DRINK ON THE PAX, (NICK NAME ME AND A FRIEND CAME UP WITH, SHE IS ON IT TOO FOR DEPRESSION. THE PAX LOL) BUT I DO SMOKE POT OCCATIONALLY AND IT DOESNT EFFECT THE PAX AT ALL IN ANYWAY.

Wow, I am a little surprised on how many negative reviews thie med. got. It has worked well for me. I took it when I was about 19 for a few months and worked well then, now I am taking it because the Depo shot has my horomones way off balance and I have been a complete mess. It really helps me to just take life as it comes and not sweat everything so much. I am satisfied with the med.

Wow this works I feel a major difference while on paxil. I don't really have any side effects either, other than fatigue (I could sleep forever). I still feel anxiety etc, but it is maybe 50% of what it used to be, which is great. Now that I'm up to 40 mgs I feel a major difference, I felt a moderate difference on 30mgs little better on 20 mgs, and no real difference on 10 mgs. We're all different, but this seems to be working for me. Go PAXIL!!!

I've been on 20 mgs for a little over a week. We're all different, but this is really working for me.

Wow So I went on it to get rid of the social anxiety and it made the regular anxiety unbearable. Definately not my top choice. It helped with the social anxiety so I can't say it was all bad.

Works, but watch your waistline This drug helped me with my anxiety/depression. I recommend it with a caveat. I put on 15 pounds within a few weeks. I also lost a lot of sexual desire.If those are not serious problems for you, take it, it works better than anything else I've ever taken.

WORKS WELL!!!!!! I have been on paxil cr about 6 weeks. It has really worked well for me. Along with depression I was experiencing panic attacks. Since I have been on it it has really done wonders. I have not had any panic attacks and my depression is disappearing. I never had any side effects at all but I discovered taking it in the morning was a lot better than at night. It made me feel sort of funny when i took it at night. Taking it in the morning and eating something with it is the best way to take it. My neice is also on it and takes it the same way and has had no side effects either.

Works well but nasty side effects My first pill: Took this one about 3 years, first year 20 mg, then reduced to 10 mg, because the sexual side effects were too strong (lowered libido, ejaculation problems). Found that 10 mg work nearly the same with side effects not that strong. Overall it did a good job in the depression thing and I felt pretty self-conscious. Side-effects in the first days are really hard as I did feel like going insane or dying or something like this. But after that first few weeks it avoided my panic-attacks to come on the surface. I gained weight,but only very little (about 5 kg, 10 (lb or pounds??)). Withdrawal took quite a time and took a lot of patience (3 months). Good cost efficancy for there are some generics available.

Works the best for me This drug was a life saver for me. It allowed me to focus. It slowed me down enought that if I miss a dose my family knows the next day. I am hyper.

Works great. Paxil has worked great for me, however the sexual side effects are a bit of a pain.
