Reviews/Feedback:
ZOMBIE TIME! When I used inderal, it completely relieved my Migraines. Completely. Unfortunately, it also stopped my life. Completely. At least with migraines I knew I had good days, with inderal everyday was like a drug induced coma. I couldn't think, I gained weight because I was immobile most of the time, and my IQ dropped about 50 points. I will never take it again.
wow after suffering through dibilitating anxiety for months, my psychiatrist finally recommended a beta blocker like Inderal today and within an hour of taking it... poof... all physical manifestations of my anxiety are gone. it is too good to be true, but it is true!

my current cocktail is 75mg of zoloft, 10 mg 3 x daily of inderal, 150 mg of lamictal, and 60 mg 2 x daily of geodon
works wonderful I can function finally none whatsoever at a 10mg dose. it does work for me
Works well - no side effects, few migraines I have now been on this drug for almost 1 1/2 years and it works very well. I get the migraines only when I don't eat regularly or I am stressed and I used to be very susceptible to them. I know this drug doesn't work for everyone, but it is very inexpensive (the generic is $5/month) and worth a try.
Works great with clonazepam I find the combination of clonazepam and propanolol works extremely well to quell my attacks and calm my mood. There is a synergy between them as they are not nearly as effective separately. I do beleive the effectiveness of clonazepam (as with other benzodiazepines) does wane over time but it seems to be much more logarithmic rather than linear and its rate of effectiveness seems to essentially stabilize after so many months. The rate of propanolol's effectiveness seems to remain steady. Good luck.
Works for problematic situations This keeps you from having many physical signs of anxiety (rapid heartbeat, shakiness,...). This is very helpful if you have to give a speech or if you are having a particularly bad day. It does not do anything for worry (anticipatory anxiety) and it does not diminish inhibitions. Thus, it is usually used in combination with an antidepressant, benzo (xanax, valium...) or buspar, which help with the worry.

Most doctors have no problem writing an Rx for this - it is not addictive (had NO abuse potential) and, for most people, has almost no side effects. Plus, it is very inexpensive. Note: this is a secret tool used by many, many public speakers (many doctors take it before they present a paper).
Works for migraine prevention After many years of struggling with migraines my Dr prescribed this as a preventative- since then I have not had more than 2 migraines (where I could have expected up to 8).
Worked Well but Made Me Terribly Sleepy I asked my Nurse Practitioner to prescribe me this drug as I saw it on this website. I took 25mg in the morning. It did a good job relieving my anxiety and did a good job at relaxing me. Supposedly it relaxes your spinal cord to your brain. In any case I got really really tired. I got home that night and slept for 13 hours!! The sleep felt good but I doubt I will take this again. If I do I will break open the capsule and try a 1/4 up to a 1/2 of a 25 mg capsule and see how that works. This is what my NP told me to do. I am very sensitive to drugs so a general person may be able to take a 25mg and be fine I would need to take a very small dose. I would also recommend a small dose if you are a small to petite person. I am 5'6 120IBS.
Worked at first, weight gain made d/c necessary Unfortunately like all old antidepressants and old beta blockers propanalol made me gain & retain weight gained. My neuro discontinued this rx when I was diagnosed with MS. For some reason Propanalol is contraindicated with my MS rx or MS dx. we did have to increase the dose over time to continue to prevent migraines. Then switched to Topamax which worked better with < weight and > mood stability.
While this does help prevent migraines- I'm down to one a month now, usually in conjunction with my period- the weight gain is a problem. I've gained 20 pounds while on this and my appetite has ramped up. It's hard to get the energy to exercise when your blood pressure gets low. I wish there was a way to suppress appetite and weight gain, but given that before this I was having migraines 5 times a week, I'll take the fat over the agony.
WHEW!!....Finally, some relief! I have GAD and Social Phobia. I suffered for 40 years with a hyper adrenalin-like reaction to new situations and new people. My heart, pulse, blood pressure, and breathing would speed up. I could feel diarrhea trying to startup, and my quiet abdominal ulcer begins to act up. I was obviously perspiring, nervous and shaky and while trying so danged hard not to let it show. Also my eye sight got blurry to the point that I could not read anything, or fill out an application or something like that, right away. I would get sores in my mouth the following day. All these symptoms were so, so very stressful and embarrassing to me that I pretty much just stayed home by my self. I so dreaded the physical symptoms. Even though I'm on Effexor XR 75 mg, (new as of 2 weeks ago), after going off Celexa, and I have Ativan 2 tabs as needed, nothing could prevent these symptoms. Then my blood pressure shot up from the Effexor, (I was already Hypertensive and on medication for it), but it shot up even higher, and my doctor put me on a Beta-1 Blocker.

Taking the Beta Blocker, Tenormin -(atenolol) along with my other med's has made a new person of me. I no longer have to go through all that stuff just to go somewhere, or meet someone. It is the best thing that has happened to me regarding GAD and SP, and my Blood Pressure is normal again.

I find it cools my body some, and thats a great help because the Effexor makes me feel as though my body is extremely over heated, (still adjusting to it), it also makes my feet and nose cold, and I'm a little bit tired on it, but I'm CALM! Do you here me out there people?...I'M CALM IN A SOCIAL SITUATION!! :). So yes there are some minor side effects, that should wear off, but I would rather have these side effects any day that be the way I was. I highly recommend Beta Blockers if your anxiety levels are as high as mine were. Oddly enough, my referring Anxiety Psychiatrist didn't seem to know that Beta Blockers are
Was put on Inderal for severe migranes. Found out 2 years later, it was my blood pressure causing the migranes. Uped the Inderol, no migranes thus far for almost 2 months. What a relief!! To me, it's been a miracle drug. Life is much better.

Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.
