Reviews/Feedback:
Works OK but... I developed IBS in my early 20s. At first certain foods set it off, now it's just everything. The Imodium works, but I've been having to gradually take more & more. I have to get up at least 2 hours earlier than I should to keep the IBS under control. Mine is diarrhea only...VERY occasionally the Imodium makes me constipated. This is a generally welcome change.

What works better is Questran (generic Cholestryamine.) The only prob is that it gets gross after a time. It is mostly used to treat high cholesterol, but slows the digestive tract. Sadly, it gets annoying. It's a powder to be mixed with water or juice. The grittiness gets gross. So I switch back to Imodium.

Incidentally, places like Costco, Sam's Club, etc .. even Wal-mart sell cheap equivalents to Imodium. It's generic is called Loperamide. I get two bottles of 50 caps for $10!
Works most of the time Before my doctor suggested loperamide, I was often unable to leave the house. I now use it almost every day, taking 1 to 3 capsules as needed to prevent diarrhea. After a few hours the abdominal distress is back, but it gives me enough time to go shopping or to a movie or even to a restaurant. It does not always work, but it is usually effective. I stock up when it is on sale, and find the price well worth it.
Works great!!! This is a good remedy for IBS. I went to the doctor, then she prescribed me high priced medicine. She said I would come out better using Immodium D when needed. I have to use this medicine maybe every 3 to 4 days. It works great for me. I only take 2 tsps. every 3 to 4 days and it holds me.
works great Immodium is about the only thing I have found that helps keep my IBS under control. If I know I am going out to dinner, or am going to be eating foods high in fat, then I will take 1 to 2 tablets before leaving my house, and it works great. If I find my self having an attack, I will take 1-2 pills, and they calm my stomach down. I find that during an IBS-D attack the chewable tablets work the fastest, usually in 5 minutes, where as the pills take about 30 minutes to an hour. Immodium is however, only a band aid, and unfortunatly does not solve all of my IBS problems, however with out it, I would not be able to live a normal life.
works great for the IBS, I take one or two every other day. I don't get bloated or constipated.
Works best for me I take one capsule before every meal (3 or more per day). Only have problems once in a while or if I forget to take a pill. Have been taking it like this for a few years to control my IBS. Dr says it is safe to take at this dosage. Tried Pamelor for a month but it didn't work for my IBS.
worked but had to use it more days than not and so wonder if I made it worse doing that. Sometimes I would get constipated in a day or two . Cost way too much at the rate I was using it, even the store brands. Still, it did work, and sometimes I even took it ahead of time if I was going to eat something I knew I shouldn't, like pizza, chocolate. etc. Have not used for abou amonth - yay - since I tried reflexology, of all things!
What is the decomposition rate for imodium? In storage?
very very good I have had IBS/D all my life. Rarely was I normal. This medication worked where as lomodal did not. I now take a pancratic emzines supplment and a probiotic compound. When taken 20/30 minuets before meals this completely normalizes my bowels. I have been evaluated for food allgeries and I do not have food allergies.
Useful I just recently tried this drug and found it to be effective in stopping the diarrhea for several days.

It also seems to work quickly.
Used in a preventative capacity Race car seats don't really have much, if any, padding to make up for all the jostling and vibration. Now add IBS to the equation... Imodium A-D has been a real boon to me.

I've dealt with the symptoms of IBS for as long as I can remember, but the best I could do for so long was Pepto-Bismol. Unfortunately, the liquid version of that stuff would gag me something fierce. The tablets were much better, but the remedy only seemed to work half the time.

The convenience and success rate (about 90%) of Imodium quickly made the tablets my number one choice. But that was always a reactive method.

Knowing that the symptoms of IBS can come on at the most inopportune of times, I started using Imodium in a preventative capacity.

If I know I have a long flight or car trip somewhere, I'll often pop one caplet about an hour before I'm scheduled to leave and another later in the day. If we're racing, I take a tablet early in the morning and a second one just before the race. Admittedly, I usually make it a point to eat more bland foods prior to these events, but the fact remains that I have been 100% successful using the Imodium in this capacity. And it's not like you can just pull a race car off the track for a bathroom break...

Luck or preventative maintenence? Doesn't really matter which it may be, it just works for me.
use of imodium for ibs combination and pain i usually have constipation, but at least once a month i have a flare up of diarrhea with extremely painful lower abd spasms (have had 3 kids and this is worse.) i take simethicone for gas and imodium and while i still go through one bout of bad diarrhea, this usually stops it. however, when there have been extreme stress in my life (death of both my sons, bankruptcy, foreclosure on my; house, losing job, and recently having my home mostly destroyed by hurricane isabel) i have extreme flare ups that can last weeks, even months. imodium does very little to stop the diarrhea, i can be incontinent, constant lower abd cramping and spasms, and i can lose up to 10-20 lbs. i have been given bentyl in past for spasms, and it works well. but mostly just have to ride it out.
