Reviews/Feedback:
tooth detereation, loose teeth
This medication has helped increased my bone mass, however it has created much joint pain in hands & forearms.
Sporadic mild leg pain for about a week after first starting. No further problems with this drug. Causes heartburn if not enough water taken with it though.
Since taking Fosamax I have noticed a slight congestion in my sinuses and throat. I have heard this can be caused by the medication. Is this true>
post menapausal, but does it stop periods from coming on im only 49 ,, or im i done with them ,,,how do i judge
please tell me any harmful effects of this drug
no problems noticed with this med..I quit for a short period due to side effect scare..the joint pain I experienced prompted me to return to the med.
My concern is over the length of time that I can safely keep taking this drug. I have been taking it for about 7 yrs. I don't seem to have any visible repurcussions from it but am still concerned. When should I get off of it ?
It has raised my bone mass density and Dr. is satisfied with results
I've been taking Fosamax with D for 3 or more years but lately find that the evening of the day I take it (once per week) I have a constricting gas feeling about mid torso...not at the level of heart or lower abdomen. Could this be a side effect?
I went through early onset menopause after a complete hysterectomy in '75 at the age of 27. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in '99 or 2000 and have been on Fossamax since then. I experienced none of the side effects I've read about in other reviews. However, I take the smaller dose (35 mg per week vs the recommended 70) due to a hypersensitivity to all medications. At one point, my insurance switched me to Actonel and it was as if my entire body had shin splints. I had to pay more to go back on Fosamax. Even at the lesser dose my osteo has slowed down. I do have a tendency toward charlie-horse cramps which I know to be a side effect (muscle cramps) but it has not been enough of a problem to make me stop taking the drug. I do work out regularly (walking, bike riding, light weights) and drink lots of water. I don't know what effect that could have. I do take calcium and vitamin D and recently heard about a product called Osteorganical (an algae calcium)taken with Shark oil to aid absorption. I'm hoping this addition will provide even better results. My osteo is "under control" but not cured. I will be 60 in July.
I was initially prescribed "Fosamax" during a clinical trial in my GP's surgery for women who had been diagnosed with Osteoporosis (which I have been). I was then given a bone scan and the results showed that there had been improvement made so I was kept on the medication.

I find it tolerable - although sometimes, indigestion can appear, however, Gp prescribed Zantac for this which helps.

overall, the actual medicine seems to be doing its job.

One drawback of this medicine is that apparently it can alter bone structure in the jaw and as I've found out it can be risky doing any dental procedures. I need a tooth out but am not letting them do it because there is apparently a risk of developing Necrosis of the jaw.
