Works well, weird side effect I was on Flovent HFA for a couple weeks and then switched to the Diskus for a couple more as I couldn't keep from nailing the back of my tongue or throat with the spray. It worked really well except that both forms of it caused my arms to feel numb/tingly/weak as if I'd cut off the circulation in them while sleeping, only it'd last all day. Got to the point where I was accidentally dropping things, so I stopped the med and it stopped. Tried it again a few months later, same thing happened within a week, though I've never heard of it happening to anyone else on it.
Worked wonderfully. I normally have problems in urban areas due to air pollution, but this helped immensely. Additionally, I noticed my exercise-induced symptoms decreased. I noticed no side effects other than a mild dry mouth.
Very effective, just one little problem I've not spent a day in the ER with an asthma attack, nor can I remember using my albuterol inhaler, since my doctor prescribed Flovent 220. Before the prescription, I was spending so much time over at the ER that doctors and nurses knew me by name :-(
The only difficulty I have with Flovent is that stiffness and pain in my hands and other joints sometimes makes it very hard for me to shake up and operate the inhaler.
This is only my second day and already I feel great! I'm not tired anymore and I can breath normal. This stuff is great!
This is a great med. I take 2 puffs 2 a day. It really helps. My friends and teachers can see when I haven't took it. My teachers send me to the nurse right away. This is a great med. I use a spacer when I take Flovent. I makes it easier to take.
So far so good My asthma became significantly worse over the last few years. This winter I contracted walking pneumonia and this exacerbated my asthma to new levels and also developed bronchitis where I actually thought, up until recently, that it would never go away and that I would never sleep through a night again. I had a hard time even walking up the stairs or down the block without feeling fatigued, chest pounding, coughing and the feeling of extreme heaviness on my chest. I could not go to work for a few works at its worst. My doctor put me on Advair and was eventually on the 500mcg dose 2x/day. Unfortunately, I developed side effects that were intolerable and had to discontinue. My doctor referred me to a pulmonologist (who is amazing) and she put me on Flovent 200mcg, at first 4 puffs 2x/per day with a spacer. Additionally, due to my allergies, she prescribed Singulair (I was already taking Zyrtec) and Flonase. I started using the peak flow meter daily - at first I registered a maximum of 130 !!! After a couple of weeks on the new meds, I am now registering 340-350 and climbing. I now feel almost back to myself and my asthma is getting under control.
Since my son as being taking this his astham has been decrease.
Satisfactory When I started Flovent it was very useful, but 2 months later I started noticing the side effects of dry coughing and sinusitis. I often got sore throats and coughing attacks when in air conditioned areas.
I was later prescribed Ventolin as an "emergency inhaler" - this has helped tremendously and really makes all the difference.
Needs accompanying brochodialator My asthma was uncontrolled for a long time. The only long-action broncodialator I used was Theophylline. Adding Flovent helped. Then the doctor added serevent instead of theophyline and the combination greatly reduced the severity of my asthma and brought it under control.
I never used Flovent without also using a long acting brochodialator.
When Flovent was added, it seems that my Albuterol inhaler was more immediately effective.
The combination of Florvent and Serevent is very good, but I have had better results using the Advair diskus--it contains the same medicines as Flovent and Serevent, but the delivery system is better for me.
My miracle drug I had been on prednisone for 17 years before my doctor prescribed Flovent for me in 1996. In the 4 years before that I had followed a strict ayurvedic regime of diet, life-style changes and plant and mineral supplements. I mention this because following this regime allowed me to go from a maintenance dose of 20 mg prednisone to 5 mg prednisone. Still I couldn't eliminate prednisone without my asthma exacerbating. I also was taking regular doses of Azmacort and Theodur. After being on Flovent for 2 weeks at a dosage of 220 mcg at 2 sprays/2x day, I was able to eliminate the prednisone. As I continued on this dose for 2 more weeks and checked in with my doctor, we determined that I could also eliminate the Theodur and Azmacort. I was able to control my asthma with just the Flovent. After a year I was able to lower the strength to 110 mcg, still at 2 sprays/2x day. Then another year or two later to the 44 mcg strength, again at 2 sprays/2x day. It still remains the best medicine for me. I have tried other, new drugs last year, but found they did not do the job for me that Flovent does. I should add that I also supplement this drug with a naturopathic form of cortisol called Isocort. This medicine along with Flovent keep my asthma under control. I can now exercise without an asthma attack and in fact have not had a severe attack since 1996. I do sometimes experience wheezing, but only rarely, i.e.,a few times a year.
My 8 yr old son has been on this for over a year- he only takes during winter months so a cold doesn't cause his asthma to flare up-he takes 1 puff a day- he is off of it from June to October- it has been great for him- however recently he had a viral infection which caused a cough so as the doctor directed we upped the dose to 2 puffs twice a day. It's been 5 days and he now has trouble sleeping-no energy-nose is stayiong stuffed. I am decreasing his dose back to one puff a day-2 puffs twice a day is obviously too much!
