Valtrex didn't work one bit for me. I have been taking Famvir for about 2 years and it has seriously reduced the severity and frequency of my breakouts. Famvir is Fantastic My doctor is treating my FMS by also going the anti-viral route and I am extremely pleased with the results I have had, thus far, with Famvir. I take 250 mgs. per day and have been taking this medication for about six weeks. There's something to it. Even my skin and my face seems to be better. Most doctors have samples of Famvir handy, so you might want to ask your doctor for some samples to try the next time you have an appointment!

Famvir helped for awhile I used Famvir for about 2 months with some success. I had EBV and other viral re-activations so my doctor suggested Famvir. I read a lot about people using it on the net for FMS, so i was hopeful. It helped some some symptoms, and I am sure viruses are part of FM. I didn't recover, and I did go through some herxing (head pain, neuropathies). For about 3 weeks I was very close to pain-free, but eventually this med lost its effectiveness I think and I just gave up. The one thing it did help, that was most bothersome was the swollen lymph nodes I have had forever. They didn't hurt and they got much smaller.

Famvir good for fatigue I have been on anti-viral meds for several years. I started out taking Valtrex 500mg per day. After 2 yrs it was not as effective, so my Dr. switched me to Famvir. It's much more expensive but it helps me more. I'm taking 500mg per day. I began taking it when the dr. prescribed it for cold sores on my mouth. After taking it for several days, I noticed my fatigue had lessened tremendously. I was able to wake up in the morning. Now it I run out, I know within 2 days, the flu-like symptoms return. The main drawback is now I don't know how I would function without it.

Famvir is used for treating herpes zoster infection (shingles). It is also used to treat recurring herpes skin infections in patients who also have HIV infection. Famvir is used in patients who have a weakened immune system to treat recurring cold sores and to treat or suppress recurring genital herpes. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How to use

Use Famvir as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Take Famvir by mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation.

If you are treating genital herpes or cold sores, start using Famvir at the first sign of an outbreak or cold sore as directed by your doctor.

If you are treating shingles, cold sores, genital herpes, or herpes skin infection, take Famvir for the full course of treatment. Keep taking it even if you feel better in a few days.

If you are using Famvir to suppress genital herpes, continue to take Famvir even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
