Reviews/Feedback:
worked well and fast.Very expensive $950.00 a month.Thats with my insurance!
worked very well. It is very expensive and I do not have drug insurance As a senior citizen and on a budget I cannot afford it.
Very helpful I took it for a year and it was very effective. It is like magic. But I am afraid of staying on it so I stopped suddenly last week and my conditions get worsen. So, I started taking it back for another 3 weeks and gradually make the doses less within 6 weeks as doctor suggested.
This worked great for me, with very little side effects. The pain and diarrhea went away quickly. I just didn't like having to take the three big pills (9mg total) each morning.
This medication truly works BUT. it's so very expensive,I'm on medicare and I can't afford to get refills. I think paying over $300 for a 30 day supply is insane!
The Entocort worked great for controlling my Crohn's flare up, but the side effects were so intolerable that I had to stop after 2 weeks. Keep in mind that I am highly sensitive to medication and my doctor had me on a high dose. Side effects were respiratory infection, headaches, severe abdominal swelling, facial swelling, acne.
My Experience of Entocort I found Entocort easy to take and effective. It has allowed my ESR and CRP counts to come down to essentially a normal level - I had only one flare-up while on this drug which was brought to an end by increasing the dosage to 9mg/day. The reduction in both ESR and CRP was over a longer period, however, symptomatic relief was relatively quick vis-à-vis my gut symptoms.

Prior to usage I was having multiple trips to the toilet everyday. This is now once a day. Occasionally [1 per 2month], I have a loose end to a motion.

It has helped deal with other symptoms such as a skin rash on my lower leg - however this returned with my flare-up but eventually subsided.

Over an extended period of time I had a reduction in a red-eye like problem that had lasted months and was unresponsive to antibiotics.

With respect to side-effects - as it says on the tin it seems to have less systematic side-effects than other steroids. It's hard for me to say whether it cause acne as I had that prior to use, I also had a bit of a belly - I can say however that I have seen no increase in either.

The only side-effect that I fell victim to was a degree of insomnia and a degree hypomania. So I would say that it is important for people with Bipolar Affective Disorder to consult with their psychiatric health provider on initiation and termination of this drug.

At the moment my GI specialist wants to remove the Entocort as I have been on it for several years. He wanted to put me on Imuran, however, as there is a family history of Leukaemia, and as there are reports of Lymphomas with high-dose long-term use of Imuran, I have asked to try taper the Entocort instead, and to try maintain a remission using Pentasa.

I have noticed on tapering a reduction in energy and appetite [not weight], and also a minor amount of depression. With respect to dosage over the complete course : I was initially on 3x3mg/Day until the symptoms went and then for the last year or so
Most acceptable Worked OK, but my Gastroenterologist wanted to put me on a different drug, rather than leave me on Entocort too long. He put me on Imuran which nearly killed me (literally), so I am back on Entocort full time.

I also take a Calcium supplement as a hedge against bone density loss, and I have a bone density scan annually. Minor changes only, so far.
Just started treatment for a very severe Crohn's flare-up, so far the side effects are rather nasty, pounding heart, dizziness, head in a fog, fatigue, and tingling all over. Everything else has not worked so hopefully this will.
It took a while for it to start working, and it cost alot!!! But it seems to work rather well, so money is well spent.
It has been the only thing that has worked for me, and also had the least side effects.
I've had Crohn's Disease for the past 20 years and taking Entocort EC seems to be working. Have cut down my trips to the bathroom in half. The only side effect that I've come across is Ache. Not just on my face but on my scalp. Has anyone else expericence this or is it just me?

Drug Uses

Entocort inhalation is used to prevent asthma attacks. It will not treat an asthma attack that has already begun.

How to use

Use Entocort as directed by your doctor.

This medication is inhaled into the lungs using a special inhaling device. Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully.
If you are not sure how to use this device, reread the patient information leaflet or ask your pharmacist. After the dose is loaded, breathe out.
Place the mouthpiece between your lips and breathe in rapidly and deeply through your mouth. The drug will be inhaled as you breathe in. Hold your breath for 10 seconds to assure it reaches deep into your lungs. Slowly breathe out.
Do not exhale into device.
Replace the cover. If the inhaler device is dropped, shaken, or you accidentally breathe into the device after the dose has been loaded, you will lose your dose. Load and inhale another dose.
Do not use the inhaler if it has been damaged or if the mouthpiece has become detached. If two inhalations are prescribed, wait at least one minute between inhalations.
If using other inhalers, use this one(the corticosteroid) last and wait several minutes after using the other(s) before using this one. To prevent dry mouth and hoarseness, rinse your mouth after each use.
Do not swallow the rinse solution. It is important to practice good oral hygiene to prevent mouth infections while using this medication.
This medication works best if used consistently at even intervals. It is usually used once in the morning and evening.
Do not increase your dose, use this more frequently or stop using this medication without first consulting your doctor.
Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Entocort.
