Reviews/Feedback:
Works, but some concerns. . . I have been using Plaquenil (in combination w/ fluctuating dosages of Prednisone & 1800 - 2400 mg. of Ibuprofen) for several years. It has been helpful in reducing pain & the frequency of horrible flares. During times when I could not take it (pregnancies & breastfeeding), my condition was much worse. I am very concerned, though, about the possibility of negative side effects on the eyes. I would like to know more from people who have had to deal w/ Plaquenil-related eye problems.
Works well for me! I have been taking Plaquenil for mild lupus and antibody issues for about 3 months now. About 1 week into it I felt a burst of energy and strength that made me take notice. Then I felt a little worse than normal for the next few weeks. My skin itched like crazy but I rode it out. Right at week 6, I started feeling better and better, and now I feel better than I have in years! Not 100% mind you, but even 80% is better than 40% right? And maybe I'll continue to improve more! Who knows? So far I don't have any eye issues - in fact I feel my eyesight has improved slightly. I don't know if this is related to taking Plaquenil. Also, I started taking a vitamin in the morning and calcium with D at night and I think this helps too. All in all I am very happy with the drug!
Works somewhat I took Plaquenil for a couple years (alone and with Arava). It did seem to help somewhat. I'd say it helped 30% which is better than nothing. There is a risk of eye lesions with this drug but I didn't have any problems or side effects with Plaquenil.
Works for me I also take Enbrel, Methotrexate and Celebrex. I also have to mention that your rheumatologist will probably have you get your eyes examined by a opthomalogist every 6 months..
Works better than I thought I was on it for 3 1/2 years with excellent results. Did not have any side affects. I had 6 month eye exams. After 3 1/2 years , I thought it wasn't working as well. I was not having an increase in joint pain but I was getting really tired and was having a lot of muscle aching and so I switched to Azulfidine for the last two months. It is NOT working at all, so I now realize that the Plaquenil was still working better than I thought.
worked when prednisone and methotrexate did not only thing that has helped so far, I have swelling in the joints of my fingers closest to the knuckles. I've tried to taper off the drug and the pain really got worse almost immediately.
Worked well, too many side effects Works well, but upset digestive system too much and kicked in irritable bowel
Worked for a few years I used this medication for several years with very reasonable results. I was using 2 tablets per day as well as some anti-inflammatories. When I went to work in a tropical location for a few years I was down to 1 tablet per day and seemed to go into remission for a few years. But I moved back and the arthritis came back with a vengence and this med not work at increased dosage even with Vioxx. Had to give it up and try methotrexate.
Wonderful Drug (plaquenil) After being diagnosed with lupus, this drug actually worked really well for me. I am now in remission and have been for a few years now. I can only hope it helps others that share my illness.
Without this medication I would be unable to move. I have more energy than
when I don't remember to take it. I have taken this medication now since 1988,
and experienced only one side effect but it is a serious one. The loss of my
hair especially on top of my head. Being a woman this is hard to take, but
it's either debilitating fatigue or no hair. I chose energy over no hair. I take
250 Mg once a day of Chloroquine the generic for Aralen. Started in 1988
Without Chloroquine I am not able to walk or function. It has given me my life back. It took a year for me to get the full potential of the drug and to feel somewhat normal. I still have flares, but not as often. I would be lost without it.
What happens w/o it I have been on plaquinel for 6 years. I began taking this drug at the age of 11. I did not notice an immediate difference but eventually seemed to be getting better. Two years later my dosage was reduced because I was doing so well. During this time I became very ill and had damage to my thyroid. The side effects in my case were none. Even as a child I had stomach irritation for only 1-2 weeks when I began taking it. As far as danger to the eyes, I have had no problem and eye checkups need only be as frequent as your 6 month eye exam. I may not have noticed immediate results but in the 3 month period of a decreased dose I realized that it prevented flares that would have caused great damage to my body. I don't know what shape I would be in without it.
