Reviews/Feedback:
This was prescribed to me for itching (primarily on my forearms and back of hands) which resulted from anxiety. I would scratch my arms to the point of huge blood blisters and bruising. Many times, I was not even aware that I was scratching until I noticed the blood or bruising or it started to hurt! This was quite unsitely and attention-getting to the extent that even strangers would inquire - very embarrassing. Atarax has worked great! Occasionally, I experience a little itching but that results from a missed dose at least 98% of the time! I recommend Atarax (generic is hydroxyzine) and plan to ask my neurologist if there is a time-released version. I had tried topical ointments such as Benedryl, hydrocortisone ointment and clear caladryl to no avail. I hope this review helps!
This is like a miracle drug for itching. I have been diagnosed with mctd, an overlap disease of lupus, and after 8 weeks of nonstop itching the dr finally gave me 25 mg of atarax. It will totally knock out the itch but you will be exhausted beyond words! I am going to call and ask for the 10 mg maybe a lower dose will still do the trick. I tried everything from benedryl to prednisone to topical creams and nothing worked. I took this and in 2 days the itch is gone!!! Thank god for this drug.
this drug helped me stop itching when I had a horrible rash and helped me sleep, I also realized my mood was much better.
Thank you for this medication. I take 10 mg of Zyrtec in the am, and 25 mg of Atarax at bedtime. I itch a very little bit. This medication has helped me a lot. It is terrible to itch all the time. Finally some releif.
reduces itching and nervousness
On May 19, 2008, I was diagnosed with Cellulitis and Atarax was prescribed for the itching. My legs, arms and face were affected and the itching was intolerable. I noticed improvement within 2 days and a complete cessation of the itch by day 4. I would highly recommend it to others. The brand I received was Hydroxyz Hcl. I took 50 mg. 3 times daily for 7 days.
It helps me sleep without waking up to itch. I have same rash that no one knows what it is.
It has helped. But it has caused some moodiness for me.Nothing that has caused me problems.
I'm a 51 year old female. I started itching all over my body from my ear lobes to my toes. I would get hives from itching. I was constantly itching. I went to my dermatologist and he prescribed this medication to me. I took 25 mg the first night and there after. My itching has stopped completely. It was amazing. I couldn't believe it. I feel that my itching was part of menopause. What ever the cause this medication stopped the itching completely. It worked for me.
I was in the hospital for shoulder surgery and was on morphine. I began itching so bad that the doctor put me on benedryl which made me so dehydrated and did not stop the itching. The doctor then put me on Atarax which immediately stopped the itching and helped me to get the rest that I needed after surgery. I would recommend this drug for uncontrolled itching and also agree with other commentors about not driving as it does make you very, very drowsy.
I suffer from eczema and scratch my skin raw during the night in my sleep. This med taken at HS has stopped me from scratching!
i needed to tske more thsn the prescribed dosage my doctor told me to take. he said one every six hours and i took two every 4 hours. i have been to the emergency room 4 times in the lst 3 days with no help from them.
