Reviews/Feedback:
~ The sleep problems go away after a few days! ~ This has been a miracle drug for my sinus and allergy problems! I was having severe sinus headaches - that felt like migraines - probably 25 days out of the month. I tried EVERYTHING (prescription, over-the-counter, and even natural remedies) but nothing worked. I was miserable until my doctor prescribed Allegra D-24 hour. My constant headache was gone about an hour or two after taking my first dose and now I rarely ever get a sinus headache. I had problems sleeping for the first 3-5 nights after I started taking it. I started taking the medicine earlier and earlier until I was taking it first thing in the morning. (You have to take it 1 hour before eating or 2 hours after eating.) If you can hang in there past those first few nights of trouble sleeping (take a sleeping pill or something to relax you) you will feel so much better! It was totally worth the adjustment period for me! I have no side effects at all now. And, in fact, it will help wake you up a little in the morning if you take it then. I am so glad my doctor prescribed this because after trying at least 10 other medications this is the only thing that has helped me. Side note: I was recently prescribed Astilin nasal spray as well and that works wonders too! I am not a doctor, just a patient, but I definitely recommend both for severe sinus/allergy problems.
Works well, with no side effects I use a combination of Allegra and Rhinocort Aqua for allergies. They work pretty well! I am pleased, especially with the fact that I haven't experienced any side effects at all. It's great! The next time I see my doc I will ask about switching to once a day Allegra for the extra convenience. Highly recommended.
Works ok, but Zyrtec is better It's easy to remember once a day, and the shape of the tablet is easy to swallow. You can take it on an empty stomach. For me, the 180 mg. Allegra version is much more effective than the 60 mg. Also, having to take a pill twice a day is a pain. Still, I find that Zyrtec is much more effective overall, and I have switched to it (unfortunately I've also found Zyrtec to be more sedating.)
works for me The lower dose didn't work for me at all (whereas I was previously able to use a smaller dose of Seldane, as far as I can remember). I sometimes take an extra 60 mg at night if I'm having a particularly bad allergy day.
Worked ok. Made my drowsy, but overall, got the job done.
wonder drug works! I have had very severe seasonal sinus/allergy problems for about 10 years. at the beginning of each fall and spring, i would get physically sick and throw up and wish i could just die from the pain and pressure, and i could not work, eat, sleep or function and i usually deal relatively well with pain. i tried all the otc drugs with no success. i have been using allegra 180 for several weeks once in the morning and once before bed in combination with nasonex and it really has worked. i do have some mild allergy/sinus problems still, but usually only if i have missed a couple doses which i try not to do. i have had no spells this spring, and the pollen has been awful this year, so i am very thankful for these two wonder drugs!
without alegra d I have to get on inhalers ,and still cant breath normal.what gets me is it is a controled drug.Im on free care and low income meds.they the drug co.has no place to ship my meds.please help .BARBARA
with Allegra 180mg I never was bothered with runnie eyes are nose but I have been without it since Dec. and my head is spinning and cant go.walk like a drunk person and cant look around fast almost fall down.
Went to some specialists who said my asthma-like symptoms were just severe allergies to food and pollen (and basically everything!). They gave me several things to try, the 24 hour Allegra seemed best so I started taking it when symptoms arose. It has been wonderful, near complete removal of symptoms, and I don't even need to take it every day. Only complaint is the pills are a bit large but a small price to pay!
was prescribed allegra for severe indoor/outdoor allergies. it helps a lot on a daily basis and allows me to have cats as pets as well as work at a zoo. however, i have experienced extremely itchy skin as well as sexual side effects. i now use aquafor and another unscented lotion daily. i have alos switched to singulair to combat the sexual side effects. girls-ask your gynocologist about allegra before going on it to make sure it's right for you.
Useful I use Allegra along with Beconase while I am undergoing allergy therapy. Claritin was more effective, but I switched when Claritin went OTC and my insurance wouldn't cover it anymore. Allegra helps the allergy symptoms without over-drying too much.
Unable to take over the counter allergy meds, they cause very rapid heart rate and dizziness. Claritin also causes side effetcs. Allegra D is the best allergy medication around. No side effects thus far. If I miss a dose, I can definitely feel it.

Drug Uses

Allegra is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and children 6 years of age and older. Symptoms treated effectively were sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose/palate/throat, itchy/watery/red eyes.

How to use

For seasonal allergies the recommended dose for adults and children 12 years or older is 60 mg twice daily or 180 mg once daily. Children 6-11 years of age should be given 30 mg twice daily. For chronic urticaria, adults and children 12 years or older should use 60 mg twice daily, and children 6-11 years of age should use 30 mg twice daily. Fexofenadine can be taken with or without food.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Fexofenadine is an oral, "second generation" antihistamine that is used to treat the signs and symptoms of allergy that are due to histamine. It is similar to the other second generation antihistamines loratadine (Claritin), cetirizine (Zyrtec) and azelastine (Astelin). Histamine is a chemical that is responsible for many of the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions, for example, swelling of the lining of the nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes. Histamine is released from histamine-storing cells (mast cells) and then attaches to other cells that have receptors for histamine. The attachment of the histamine to the receptors causes the cell to be "activated," releasing other chemicals that produce the effects that we associate with allergy, e.g., sneezing. Fexofenadine blocks one type of receptor for histamine (the H1 receptor) and thus prevents activation of H1 receptor-containing cells by histamine. Unlike the first generation antihistamines, fexofenadine and other second-generation antihistamines do not readily enter the brain from the blood, and, therefore, they cause less drowsiness. Fexofenadine was approved by the FDA in July, 1995.
