Reviews/Feedback:
yes, this medication worked for me, and i was very pleased withit. It did however create severe chapped lips and very dry skin but was well worth it. My face was clear my entire teenage years. However know at 27, my face is breaking out, wondering if what I have read on this is correct, it only works for 10 years.
Years of waiting for great skin! I just finished Accutane and WOW what a change. Worth the dry lips and bloody noise. i tried every thing for years this works. for dry skin try dry brushing it helps alot. I put of having my first baby for this treatment and although the blood tests and dr. visits were a pain it has been worth it.
Wow reading all these reviews actually have scared me more and I have been off of this drug for about a year+. While taking it, i had the expected dry skin, but since that time, I never really break out and if I do, it goes away in a day or two. I have recommended it to others, calling it a "miracle drug". I never had bad skin until around age 19-20. It was really wierd. Getting on accutane completely solved all my problems. The depression that some people experience is all mental, that is, it is not really a side effect of the medication. Overall a great drug, I just hope that these people who say it only last ten years do not know what they are talking about!
WOW I AM 17 YEARS OLD AND TO ME THIS IS THE MIRACLE PILL.ive been on it for five months and the change was great in my face it had very bad acne.the only symtom i had was chapped lips and dry skin. thank u accutane.
WORKS MIRACLES BUT THIS MEDICATION SHOULD BE AN ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT. After suffering from acne for 13 years I finally decided to go on Accutane. My acne was incredibly painful and I also suffered from skin infections in my outer ear. I tried Pro Active, over the counter medication, oral antibiotics and topical antibiotic treatments with no progress. My skin, lips and scalp instantly dried up and were very irritated. Developed eczema for the first time in my life. After a couple of weeks I began to have severe pain in my joints when I got out of bed in the morning. Dr. then lowered my dosage. My acne became significantly worse while on the medication. During the 4th month of treatment I began to have a headache that lasted for 2 weeks with no response to Tylenol or Advil. At that point my doctor took me off the medication. About 6 months after I began the treatment my acne completely disappeared. I have now been acne free for over a year and the ear infections have stopped. This medication was horrible on my body but I'm so glad I was able to stick it out and take it.
Worked wonders! I had SEVERE acne as a teen, and accutane was a miracle for me. Over a year and a half, my acne problems disapeared. I'm still left with scars from the severe acne on my back, but no longer have the zit problem!
Worked well, no problems No side effects noticed at all. It wasn't quite magic in its effectiveness, but did make a big improvement.
Worked pretty darn well I took Accutane (amnesteem) for 9 months. I started on 30mg 1x a day, then increased to 2x a day. It really cleared up my skin a lot, and I have barely had even one pimple, blackhead, or whitehead since going off of it. My skin is much less oily as well. The negative side of this was the side effects, and they were TERRIBLE. My lips, eyes, face, and inside of my nose were dry for the entire course of the treatment. I had to constantly put vaseline in my nose or eyedrops in my eyes. I also got severely depressed, but then again I have always been depressed so its hard to say which it was. And towards the end of the treatment I started to get a ringing in my ears, which went away once I stopped taking it. All in all it was worth the side effects.
With the online quiz and the doctor's correspondence and all the rules it is made a little bit more difficult to use. But it is definately worth it. My acne got WAY worse the first two weeks, but now it is almost cleared completely up, my skin looks great, and I only have two months left.
While I did this it was horrible! I was extremely honery and felt overall miserable. I think my lips bleed at least 7-10 times a day! I have been off of it for several months and it has been great! I no longer have horrible side effects, but the benefits have been long lasting. I have not had a zit in at least a year.
Well Im at the end of my Sixth Month and it looks a 100 times better i rarely get pimples now i would recommend it to just about anyone thats if they really want to get rid of your acne the only thing to get rid of now is the scarring that my ance caused don't ever pop a pimple big mistake. And as for the side affects i didn't really have any at all just one really but well i was already kinda depressed with my life and it seriously put some thoughts in my head i never want to think again but as soon as i had something better in life to look forward to i never had another problem(Just stay happy) and you'll be fine in my book probably the best thing i ever spent my money on and one more thing you don't want to have to pay for this medicine without insurance expensive as hell but to me it was worth every penny over (250) a perscription and well anyone taking it i Hope all goes as well as mine. And Goodluck Ance SUCKS and people without will never know the hardship we go through it just looks terrible. So give it A TRY you shouldn't regret it!
Was on accutane for 6 month taking up to 120mg. It seemed to work at first but by the 6th month I still had alot of acne and the side effects where starting to outweigh the results. In the end, still had moderate acne, currently pursuing another form of treatment. Keeping in mind that I may have been to young to take Accutane.

Drug Uses

Accutane is used for treating severe acne in patients who do not respond to other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How to use

Take Accutane two times a day with a meal, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Swallow the capsule. Don't suck or chew it. Take it with a full glass of water, milk, or other nonalcoholic liquid. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Depending on your reaction to Accutane, your doctor may need to adjust the dosage upward or downward. If you respond quickly and very well, your doctor may take you off Accutane even before the 15 or 20 weeks are up.

After you finish taking Accutane, there should be at least a 2-month "rest period" during which you are off the drug. This is because your acne may continue to get better even though you are no longer taking the medication. Once the 2 months are up, if your acne is still severe, your doctor may want to give you a second course of Accutane. If you are still growing, your doctor may recommend a longer "rest period."

Avoid consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Read the patient information leaflet available with the product. Do not crush the capsules.

Do not share Accutane with anyone because of the risk of birth defects and other serious side effects.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Accutane is a retinoid. It works by reducing skin oil production, changing the characteristics of the skin oil, and preventing abnormal hardening of the skin.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Accutane, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Storage

Store Accutane at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Accutane out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Warnings/Precautions

Do not use Accutane if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Accutane;
you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or become pregnant while taking Accutane;
you are breast-feeding.
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Important:
Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
Do not give blood while taking Accutane and for 1 month after stopping taking Accutane.
Do not drink alcohol while taking Accutane.
Worsening of acne may occur during the first part of therapy. This does not suggest failure or a need to stop the medicine.
To prevent cracking of lips, use a lip moisturizer or balm.
Do not have cosmetic procedures to smooth your skin, including waxing, dermabrasion, or laser procedures, while you are taking Accutane and for at least 6 months after you stop. Accutane can increase your chance of scarring from these procedures.
Accutane may cause increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Accutane . Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period.
Tell your health care provider if you plan vigorous physical activity (sports) during treatment with Accutane.
Sexually active women of childbearing age must use 2 effective forms of birth control at least 1 month before starting therapy, during therapy, and for 1 month after stopping the medicine. Your health care provider should conduct pregnancy tests on a monthly basis while you are taking Accutane.
Certain birth control pills (progestin) that do not contain estrogen may not be as effective while you are taking Accutane.
Diabetes patients - Accutane may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your health care provider before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
